ANDREA VICARI (PIANO) Bmus.

Born in Miami Florida, but educated at The Guildhall School of Music in London where she formed her first important group with Julian Arguelles & Stuart Hall on Bass. She has previously released four CDs in her own name, "Suburban Gorillas"; "Lunar Spell", "Tryptych"; and “Mango Tango’  and worked with the cream of the UK jazz scene including Phil Bent, David Jean Baptiste, Don Weller, Dick Pearce, Mornington Lockett, Tim Whitehead, Tim Garland, The Vortex Foundation Big Band etc. plus US trumpet legend Art Farmer and US sax experimentalist Eddie Harris. Andrea Vicari is also the musical director of a show about Chet Baker:  "Chet Baker Speedball" which ran during the London jazz festival at the 606 club in Chelsea and at the Oval Theatre. MARK LOCKHEART

Mark is acknowledged as one of the most distinctive saxophone voices in Britain today. He came to prominence in the mid 1980’s with the popular British big-band Loose Tubes and after recording and touring with Loose Tubes, Roger Dean , Django Bates, Prefab Sprout and Annie Whitehead started his own group in 1989. This group, which also included Huw Warren and Dudley Phillips performed at various European festivals and played two stints at Ronnie Scott’s in London. Mark started composing for his group and that led to commissions from Scottish Arts to write a multi-media piece based on the religious festival of Semana Santa (1991), a saxophone quintet entitled Chorinho (1995) and Dance for Anne Frank (1992) a piece for Avis Von Herder’s Dance Company. Currently working with the Mercury nominated "Polar Bear" alongside Seb Rochford and Pete Wareham, he was also a featured artist in the opera "Anna Nicole" at the Royal Opera House in London. marklockheart.co.uk

QUENTIN COLLINS

Quentin Collins is currently a member of the Mike Garrick Big Band, Jean Toussaint quintet, and has just released his second CD as co-leader with saxophonist Brandon Allen, "What's It Gonna Be?" Quentin lists Booker Little, Duke Ellington and Alex Spiagin amongst his musical influences. Currently on a nationwide tour with his own band. www.quentincollins.com

MALCOLM EARLE SMITH BA(hons).
New Orleans music, Swing, Bebop, Contemporary jazz, Blues, Soul: Malcolm Earle Smith is equally at home playing all jazz styles. Well known for his work as trombonist, vocalist, composer and teacher, he is one of the most versatile and entertaining musicians on the London scene. Central to Malcolm’s inspiration is his passion for jazz tradition, his depth of musical knowledge, his commitment to ensemble playing and his honest, stylish delivery. JONATHAN BRATOËFF

Since moving to London in 1998, this French guitarist has been an important part of the UK jazz scene. He is a founding member of the award winning F-IRE collective playing alongside jazz luminaries Seb Rochford, Pete Wareham, Ingrid Laubrock, Tom Arthurs,Ben Davis, Nick Ramm and many others including Julian Siegel, Martin Speake, Soweto Kinch, Orphy Robinson, Shabaka Hutchings. Jonathan has recorded five albums as a leader. His debut Episode (2001) featuring F-IRE collective members Seb Rochford and Ben Davis amongst others, the critically acclaimed album Between Lines (2005) featuring Seb Rochford, Pete Wareham and Tom Mason, the more electric and electronic sounding album Points of Perception (2006) an experimental duo with NY drummer Chris Vatalaro  (Ralph Alessis, Michael Cain, Antibalas) entitled Chapters (2009) and finally his last Quartet album entitled "Mindscapes" and featuring Tom Mason again plus new members Mark Hanslip and DJSS alumni,  drummer James Maddren. www.jonathanbratoeff.com

NIC FRANCE
Loose Tubes founder member and session drummer extraordinaire; Nic has worked with Ian Carr's Nucleus, Allan Holdsworth, Jim Mullen, Martin Taylor, Ronnie Scott, Kenny Wheeler, Hank Crawford, David ‘Fathead’ Newman (Ray Charles’ sax player), John Taylor, Gordon Beck, L. Shankar, Mose Allison, Tim Whitehead and appeared on a TV drum clinic with Billy Cobham. He then started working in the Rock and Pop music world, with such artists as: Bill Withers [2 tours U.K. & Europe], Tanita Tikaram [3 World tours and 3 albums] and Working Week [3 European tours + Japan and 3 albums]. Recorded with Pete Townsend, Thomas Dolby and have recently played with Annie Lennox and Nigel Kennedy. Most famously he has also been working with David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) in his acoustic project of which there is a DVD; ‘David Gilmour Live’.

SCOTT VICARI BA (hons)
EMI signed singer Scott Vicari returned to the UK to pursue his love of jazz drumming. USA born, he was educated at Middlesex University where he produced a show for the Edinburgh festival which later toured eastern europe. In demand as a session drummer he has worked with "DB clifford" and XFM favourites "Flint". PAOLA VERA Bmus (hons)

An experienced and highly skilled teacher, performer and workshop leader specialising in voice and piano. Currently in the middle of completing an Mmus from The Royal Academy of Music, London, after taking her Bmus at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.  Also a fluent Spanish speaker from her Venezuelan heritage. Recent performances include Ronnie Scotts, 606 Jazz club, Pizza Express Dean St, Matt and Phreds, The Vortex; + The Isle of Wight, Ashford and Ramsgate jazz festivals. Paola has released her own album "Spellbound" produced by Paul Booth (Steve Winwood), and engineered by Grammy nominated sound-engineer James Towler. Currently working on a new CD with esteemed producer Richard Niles (Ray Charles, Pat Metheny, Kylie Minogue). DUNCAN EAGLES Bmus (hons)
“Saxophonist Duncan Eagles holds the stage with his attractively dry tone, sharpness and the urgent ferocity of his tenor improvising” The Guardian

After studying at the Dordogne Jazz Summer School (yes, we have to take all the credit) Duncan established himself on the UK Jazz Scene performing with top jazz musicians including Dave O’Higgins, Derek Nash, John Etheridge, Gary Husband, Alex Hutton, Jason Rebello, Kit Downes and Shabaka Hutchings. Duncan first picked up the saxophone at 16 years of age and at 18 was accepted onto the Jazz course at the the Trinity College Of Music where he studied with Russel Van Den Berg, Jean Toussaint, Mark Lockheart and Andrea Vicari.At just 19 years old he won the Spike Robinson saxophone award. At 21 Duncan became involved with Tomorrow's Warriors and regularly appears in the houseband that hosts the monthly jam session at the Spice of Life. He is currently writing and gigging with his trio Partikel which has just recorded their 1st album. Most recently Duncan joined British vocalist Ola Onabule’s touring band that regularly performs at major International Jazz Festivals around the World. An experienced teacher, gaining valuble skills assisting at the DJSS in Monteton, Duncan has been running a busy JazzWorkshop and Jam session at Hideaway in London. www.duncaneagles.co.uk

MORNINGTON LOCKETT BA (hons)
Tenor saxophonist Mornington Lockett studied at Dartington College Of Arts in Devon before moving to London to attend the Guildhall School Of Music And Drama. As a member of the Ronnie Scott Sextet, Mornington worked extensively in Britain and abroad. He has recorded with Ronnie Scott, guitarist Jim Mullen, drummer Martin Drew, singers Sarah Jane Morris, Claire Martin and Ian Shaw and US bass guitarist, Jo Hubbard. DAVE GELLY
MBE MA (Cantab)
Award-winning writer and broadcaster, Dave Gelly is the author of numerous books, including 'Being Prez: the Life & Music of Lester Young' and 'Stan Getz: Nobody Else But Me'. Dave Gelly has played or recorded (on tenor, clarinet and bass clarinet) with a bizarre collection of people, from Sir Richard Rodney Bennett to Arthur ’Big Boy’ Crudup, including along the way Neil Ardley, Kenny Baker, Maynard Ferguson, Jack Bruce, Keith Emerson, Art Themen and John Cleese (don’t ask). Dave learned clarinet as a kid, but is largely self-taught on saxophone. Jazz studies consisted of listening to records for hours on end, from the age of 12, and trying to figure out what was going on. Now has a pretty good idea of what’s going on, from King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band to the second Miles Davis Quintet, and he will endeavour to explain on request. DORIAN LOCKETT
Dorian studied at the Guildhall School of Music before carving out a career on the London Jazz scene, playing with Phil Bent, Alan Barnes, Dave O'Higgins, Phil Robson, Dick Pearce, Clare Hirst, Don Weller, Chris Tobin etc. He taught bass guitar for five years at Morley College in London and led jazz workshops at Kingsway and Camden institute. He ran a jazz club for G.E. Aldwinkles and the Bedford pub in Balham, under the title  "Jazz in the Round". Dorian plays on four Andrea Vicari CD's which he co-produced. He pioneered the use of sunglasses as a teaching aid and is a third dan at extreme kinito. He can count Elvis as a friend.
